an idea : use a linear function, ex  f(x) = 1.25x + 0.6 (who gives quant ->
B-frames quant)
i compared against d(x) = 2x and g(x) = x+2 (DivX 5 behaviour and a simple
add)
(see comp.txt/plot.jpg)

seems a good compromise no ??
