so for mencoder i vote for the solution offered by someone:
have a 'config' file for mencoder as well, where you would describe
aliases for a setting-group... and mencoder could ship with some
predefined aliases that's all.. you don't lose anything , you gain a
lot..

I agree. This thread becomes more and more OT but config file seems to be some kind of compromise. Mplayer has config and lots of switches and nobody refuse this solution.


Another thing is encoding HOWTO. Getting together what was told here is fairly enought for avarage Linux user.

PS. Don't blame people who just want to rip famoust DVD at avarage quality easy and fast :> Not all linux users are developers (that's why I subscribe MPlayer-users not dev-eng)
