I used to run mplayer 0.62 on SuSE 7.2 with an older XFree86
version and did not have xv supported those days.

this is what the mplayer ati documentation says, too.
anyhow I'm currently using SuSE 9.0, XFree v4.3.0.1, 
Mplayer 1.0pre-3.3.1 with the original SuSE/XFree ati driver wich 
completely lacks of 3d support.
so what - I don't need 3d in any way.
