Sounds like it's a playlist and MPlayer is trying to read the actual
playlist text as a video stream and isn't getting anywhere. Try:

gmplayer -playlist
http://play.rbn.com/?url=cartalk/cartalk/demand/CT0446-01.ra

and see if that works. My 2 cents.

I tried that and it seamed to work for a short moment. But only until I got the buffer loaded till 20%. Then the whole thing crashes with the following output. I am not sure if I should report a bug now, since I am actually hoping that it is just a unsufficent user, sitting in front of this system not knowing what to do with that overwhelming piece of software.

Looks like you just don't have the real codecs installed. I'd check the docs on the realplayer section like it says for that.
