Well... To triple post. Someone else responded and got their problem 
fixed but this problem is still there and has always been there since I 
started using mplayer. I would really like this to be fixed as it is 
incredibly annoying. And to just further verify, it isn't the soft 
subs. The problem is ONLY with .mkv files and ALL of them at that, no 
matter audio codecs, video codecs, and subtitles.
