hello

is there any way to use the linux divx 6 binary codec with mencoder ?

No, though if someone were to add support it would be useful for testing
and comparison.

In any case, you'll probably get better performance and/or quality by
using XviD or libavcodec MPEG-4, both of which are well-supported in
mencoder.

thanks for the reply i know that xvid and lavc is there, but i have to use divx (i'm going to a programming contest this weekend and they specified that we need to be able to encode divx, but probably any mpeg4 encoder will be ok)

Interesting. What kind of a programming contest?

For best interoperability, be sure to know about the -ffourcc option. Many players/decoders don't recognize libavcodec's FMP4 fourcc, so using '-ffourcc XVID' or '-ffourcc DIVX' might be necessary.
