For anime I have settled on hqdn3d as the magic bullet for
keeping file size reasonable. For anime, it makes some
encodes look BETTER than the source, specifically there are
some fansub encoders that use some strange encode that produces
noise artifacts around sharp lines, and hqdn3d often removes
these entirely without removing the lines themselves.
Fortunately for those of us who encode mostly anime, anime is
trivial to encode compared to live action.
