Same thing here (nvidia's xv).

Temporary workaround:
 Get the previous version of vo_xv.c (cvs -z3 update -r 1.40 libvo/vo_xv.c)
 Compile mplayer
 Restart X
 Relaunch mplayer

NOTE: do remember to do a 'cvs -z3 update -d -A' next time you want to
update your CVS (when the bug is fixed) to "unstick" the file (see man
cvs).
