Hm, what is it exactly that do you disagree about?

I wanted to express that file from the internet are unreliable, and the
reason is that you don't know what settings were used for encoding. In
particular, certified DivX hardware devices are only tested to work with
the "DivX Profiles" which is a subset of MPEG-4 features (only 1 bframe,
no Qpel, no GMC, ...) plus a restriction on peak bitrate (so called VBV).

The combination of transcode+XviD doesn't support setting the DivX profile
directly, you can get the same effect by using the xvid4.cfg file and keep
a low enough bitrate.

If your _DivX5_ files don't play, that's most likely because they were
encoded with "Free Profile" which means no restricitions, or maybe because
your player has a chip from Sigma Designs which is a company of thiefs
and liars with crappy products anyway.

DivX4 and XviD 0.9.2 simply don't support the extended features which some
players have problems with, so most likely those files will work with all
hardware players. Again, you can create the same effect with XviD and
xvid4.cfg, by disabling many useful new features, in particular set
max_bframes=0.
