mplayer will play the material not smoothly and it reports vop not coded
very very often. When you play the material with -vc xvid there is no
problem.

I don't know if xvid is the nicest codec in the world. The quality is
superb especially with tv material. Reading everything that was posted
here in the last few days I think that lavcodec has problems with the
default profile xvid uses. Like I said when I transcode with an
xvid4.cfg present in the current directory the problem does not exist
