List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: transcode Users Mailing List List-Unsubscribe: , I have a dv file that is 1361952704 bytes in size (a little over 26 minutes). I am attempting to pull out certain frames as jpegs. I can pull these out early in the video correctly, but then transcode stops encoding frames after about 5 minutes of video. The last command that pulled out a jpeg that I wanted correctly is: transcode -i in.dv -o outfile -y jpg, null -c 8494-8495 When I run the following command to get the next jpeg I want: transcode -i in.dv -o outfile -y jpg, null -c 12126-12127 it encodes no frames as jpegs. I get the following output which says it runs out of data after frame 11347 when I add -q7 at the end of the command. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem which is about 6:44 into the dv file? I use dvdbackup the first time because sometimes the transcode process is not needed if the dvd is small enough. Once I rip it and discover it's too big for a dvd-r I'd rather avoid reripping it. But if the making an iso is the only solution then maybe reripping would be just as fast. Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking that since the dvdbackup output looks so much like the original dvd that tccat could probably just read it directly if I figure out the right options to give it. _______________________________________________ transcode-users mailing list transcode-users@exit1.org http://lists.exit1.org/mailman/listinfo/transcode-users From transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Wed Sep 1 23:53:29 2004 Return-Path: X-Original-To: itdp@fh-biergarten.de Delivered-To: itdp@localhost Received: from fries.zyn.de (fries.zyn.de [213.239.201.88]) (using TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.kliche.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2D9B7126D90 for ; Wed, 1 Sep 2004 23:53:29 +0200 (CEST) Received: from fries.zyn.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i81Lq8Si019026; Wed, 1 Sep 2004 23:52:08 +0200 Received: from alumni.cse.ucsc.edu (alumni.cse.ucsc.edu [128.114.63.28]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i81LmmSi018856 for ; Wed, 1 Sep 2004 23:48:49 +0200 Received: from alumni.cse.ucsc.edu (localhost.cse.ucsc.edu [127.0.0.1]) by alumni.cse.ucsc.edu (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i81M2u2t052890 for ; Wed, 1 Sep 2004 15:02:56 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from smiths@alumni.cse.ucsc.edu) Received: from localhost (localhost [[UNIX: localhost]]) by alumni.cse.ucsc.edu (8.12.10/8.12.10/Submit) id i81M2uVW052889 for transcode-users@exit1.org; Wed, 1 Sep 2004 15:02:56 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from smiths) Date: Wed, 1 Sep 2004 14:49:08 -0700 From: Wes Gray To: transcode-users@exit1.org Subject: Re: [transcode-users] tccat reading from vob files Message-ID: <20040901214908.GA30997@beavis> References: <20040901201350.GA29325@beavis> <20040901203421.GA9765@tecra780> <20040901204509.GA29797@beavis> <20040901212243.GB9765@tecra780> <20040901213722.GA30634@beavis> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20040901213722.GA30634@beavis> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6i X-Mail-Checks: sa wwmf block (fries) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on fries.zyn.de X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=no version=2.64 X-Spam-Level: X-WWMF-Status: 2.5.20040817.3!tsvurl@fries X-Mail-Blocker-Flag: YES X-List-Qualification: Member Sender: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Errors-To: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org X-BeenThere: transcode-users@exit1.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.11 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: transcode-users@exit1.org X-Reply-To: smiths@alumni.cse.ucsc.edu List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: transcode Users Mailing List List-Unsubscribe: , On Wed, Sep 01, 2004 at 02:37:22PM -0700, Wes Gray wrote: > > I use dvdbackup the first time because sometimes the transcode process > is not needed if the dvd is small enough. List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: transcode Users Mailing List List-Unsubscribe: , I have a dv file that is 1361952704 bytes in size (a little over 26 minutes). I am attempting to pull out certain frames as jpegs and clips as AVIs. I can pull these out early in the video correctly, but then transcode stops encoding frames after about 5 minutes of video. The last command that pulled out a jpeg that I wanted correctly is: transcode -i in.dv -o outfile -y jpg, null -c 8494-8495 When I run the following command to get the next jpeg I want: transcode -i in.dv -o outfile -y jpg, null -c 12126-12127 I get a similar result (encoding no frames) making a clip with the command: transcode -i in.dv -P 1 -y raw -o outfile -J cut="12126-13000" The problem indicates that the encoder ran out of data when looking for the frame(s) I a looking for: (encoder.c) export terminated - buffer(s) empty I get the following output (see below the =====) which says it runs out of data after frame 11347 when I add -q7 at the end of the command: Any suggestions on how to fix this problem which is about 6:44 into the dv file? They will probably lack nav packets though, so dvdauthor will probably complain. If you want to do processing on a dvd on a chapter-by-chapter basis (for easy re-authoring), I'd recommend vamps, it can also do requanting and stripping of audio channels on the go. _______________________________________________ transcode-users mailing list transcode-users@exit1.org http://lists.exit1.org/mailman/listinfo/transcode-users From transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Thu Sep 2 20:29:40 2004 Return-Path: X-Original-To: itdp@fh-biergarten.de Delivered-To: itdp@localhost Received: from fries.zyn.de (fries.zyn.de [213.239.201.88]) (using TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.kliche.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B7640126D91 for ; Thu, 2 Sep 2004 20:29:40 +0200 (CEST) Received: from fries.zyn.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i82IR3Si009891; Thu, 2 Sep 2004 20:27:03 +0200 Received: from a.mx.oldconomy.com (oldconomy.demon.nl [212.238.217.56]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i82IO3Si009730 for ; Thu, 2 Sep 2004 20:24:03 +0200 Received: from andromeda.oldconomy.com (andromeda.oldconomy.com [172.31.1.2]) by a.mx.oldconomy.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 902C5CFBD5 for ; Thu, 2 Sep 2004 20:24:03 +0200 (CEST) Received: by andromeda.oldconomy.com (Postfix, from userid 10) id 60D0652C042; Thu, 2 Sep 2004 20:24:03 +0200 (CEST) Received: by skylla.oldconomy.com (Postfix, from userid 100) id 7CB028F5; Thu, 2 Sep 2004 20:23:26 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: [transcode-users] dv -> svcd fails (Error reading wave data) From: Erik Slagter To: transcode-users@exit1.org In-Reply-To: <200409021010.12791.gebhardt@hrz.uni-marburg.de> References: <200409021010.12791.gebhardt@hrz.uni-marburg.de> Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <1094149406.22550.8.camel@localhost.localdomain> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.4.6 (1.4.6-2) Date: Thu, 02 Sep 2004 20:23:26 +0200 X-Mail-Checks: sa wwmf block (fries) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on fries.zyn.de X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=no version=2.64 X-Spam-Level: X-WWMF-Status: 2.5.20040817.3!tsvurl@fries X-Mail-Blocker-Flag: YES X-List-Qualification: Member Sender: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Errors-To: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org X-BeenThere: transcode-users@exit1.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.11 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: transcode-users@exit1.org List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: transcode Users Mailing List List-Unsubscribe: , > I tried to transcode a DV avi file (audio data contained both in DV and video > stream). So far I only did progressive dv; but now want to convert found footage, a dvd size mpeg2 to the svcd spec. when looking at the file resulting from the conversion with mpginfo (mpgtx), unlike the source, it always displays "Not interlaced" I understand its about ffmpeg using different ways to compute frame differences etc. with interlaced material; probably it also might do to just switch the interlaced bit in the final file? It must be a matter of setting parameters. > command line used: (ffmpeg module seems to ignore parameters > appended with -F, there seems to exist no interlace option in > ffmpeg.cfg, -I and --encode_fields seems not to help either) ffmpeg only recognises codecs with -F. --encode_fields for ffmpeg is only supported in the cvs and development versions of transcode. If you use transcode 0.6.12, specify "ildct" and "ilme" in ffmpeg.cfg. You may also try to add "alt". If you use transcode from cvs or development you should use the dvd export profiling support anyway, which will guess the interlaced-ness. You can override it with --encode_fields. Trying to make mpeg2 video for dvd without either specifying the buffer parameters in ffmpeg.cfg nor using --export_prof is bound to fail, because the resulting mpeg2 stream is not dvd compliant. If you do use --export_prof, you don't need to specify -F mpeg2 (there isn't much sense in e.g. dvd mpeg4, is there?). You only need to specify -y ffmpeg to use ffmpeg, or leave -y out to use mpeg2enc. > ffmpeg.cfg: > > [mpeg2video] > vrc_minrate=0 > vrc_maxrate=2500 > vrc_buf_size=224 > vrc_buf_aggressivity=99 > vmax_b_frames=2 > aspect=4/3 > gray=1 Start transcode with -q 1. Watch what ffmpeg says. I will probably tell you that it enabled interlaced mode. For the export_prof to work properly, don't try to outsmart it, so remove all your buffer control options from ffmpeg.cfg (vrc...). BTW I can't imagine svcd's allows two b frames. _______________________________________________ transcode-users mailing list transcode-users@exit1.org http://lists.exit1.org/mailman/listinfo/transcode-users From transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Fri Sep 3 12:09:30 2004 Return-Path: X-Original-To: itdp@fh-biergarten.de Delivered-To: itdp@localhost Received: from fries.zyn.de (fries.zyn.de [213.239.201.88]) (using TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.kliche.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 42C2C126D91 for ; Fri, 3 Sep 2004 12:09:30 +0200 (CEST) Received: from fries.zyn.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i83A3mSi016516; Fri, 3 Sep 2004 12:03:48 +0200 Received: from a.mx.oldconomy.com (oldconomy.demon.nl [212.238.217.56]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i839q4Si015671 for ; Fri, 3 Sep 2004 11:52:04 +0200 Received: from andromeda.oldconomy.com (andromeda.oldconomy.com [172.31.1.2]) by a.mx.oldconomy.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8A853CFBD5 for ; Fri, 3 Sep 2004 11:52:04 +0200 (CEST) Received: by andromeda.oldconomy.com (Postfix, from userid 10) id 5FA4A52C042; Fri, 3 Sep 2004 11:52:04 +0200 (CEST) Received: by skylla.oldconomy.com (Postfix, from userid 100) id F3BB38F5; Fri, 3 Sep 2004 11:51:40 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: [transcode-users] dv -> svcd fails (Error reading wave data) From: Erik Slagter To: transcode-users@exit1.org In-Reply-To: <20040902204035.GA18526@lazy.shacknet.nu> References: <200409021010.12791.gebhardt@hrz.uni-marburg.de> <20040902194532.GA17978@lazy.shacknet.nu> <1094155822.22546.18.camel@localhost.localdomain> <20040902204035.GA18526@lazy.shacknet.nu> Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <1094205100.26136.51.camel@localhost.localdomain> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.4.6 (1.4.6-2) Date: Fri, 03 Sep 2004 11:51:40 +0200 X-Mail-Checks: sa wwmf block (fries) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on fries.zyn.de X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=no version=2.64 X-Spam-Level: X-WWMF-Status: 2.5.20040817.3!tsvurl@fries X-Mail-Blocker-Flag: YES X-List-Qualification: Member Sender: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Errors-To: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org X-BeenThere: transcode-users@exit1.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.11 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: transcode-users@exit1.org List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: transcode Users Mailing List List-Unsubscribe: , On Thu, 2004-09-02 at 22:40, Peter Chiocchetti wrote: > > > I remember the same error; dont use "-V" option. might work then. > > You definitely DON'T want to skip the -V option. Transcode crash when i use -J resample explicitly if i supress it it doesnt crash. So the correct command is : transcode -i 0000000135.S -x mpeg2,mp3 -y ffmpeg, wav -F mpeg4 -V --export_fps 5 -e 32000,16,1 -E 16000,16,1 -J fps -Z 320x240 -w 100 -o video.avi -m sonido.wav -J resample You suggest me to export wav and resample with sox in a second stage... is there any way to do it from transcode in only one stage? I have noticed that if using lame as codec i dont need to specify -J resample because lame use sox internally to do the resampling... Is there any way to output a resampled wav or pcm without using transcode resample filter? I need to transcode about 100 MPEG files to ISO mp4, i am making a script to automate the whole process and i trying to optimize the process as much as i can.. The resample filter _is_ one big bug. Someone really should reimplement it. Hint: libavcodec has had it's audio resample code vastly improved lately. BTW somehow people using M frame rates (aka NTSC) tend to have more difficulties with the resample filter than others. I'm not sure if it's a transcode problem or dvdrip, but the same movie encoded with exactly the same parameters will generate bad results when using clustering, ie. breaking the task up into chunks. There are a/v sync problems and I get the odd corrupted (green pixeled) frames. I'm using the latest gentoo build, but was wondering if the current cvs had any fixes in for these kinds of problems. _______________________________________________ transcode-users mailing list transcode-users@exit1.org http://lists.exit1.org/mailman/listinfo/transcode-users From transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Sat Sep 4 18:10:28 2004 Return-Path: X-Original-To: itdp@fh-biergarten.de Delivered-To: itdp@localhost Received: from fries.zyn.de (fries.zyn.de [213.239.201.88]) (using TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.kliche.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 078CD126D91 for ; Sat, 4 Sep 2004 18:10:28 +0200 (CEST) Received: from fries.zyn.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i84G4GSi026326; Sat, 4 Sep 2004 18:04:16 +0200 Received: from mail.gmx.net (pop.gmx.de [213.165.64.20]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with SMTP id i84FwhSi025987 for ; Sat, 4 Sep 2004 17:58:43 +0200 Received: (qmail 19312 invoked by uid 65534); 4 Sep 2004 15:58:37 -0000 Received: from 212-62-89-10.teleos-web.de (EHLO work.holtkamp.priv) (212.62.89.10) by mail.gmx.net (mp010) with SMTP; 04 Sep 2004 17:58:37 +0200 X-Authenticated: #810257 Received: from amavis by work.holtkamp.priv with scanned-ok (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 1C3cw1-0002sp-00 for ; Sat, 04 Sep 2004 17:58:37 +0200 Received: from mobby.holtkamp.priv ([192.168.10.40]) by work.holtkamp.priv with smtp (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 1C3cvY-0002sk-00 for ; Sat, 04 Sep 2004 17:58:08 +0200 Received: by mobby.holtkamp.priv (sSMTP sendmail emulation); Sat, 4 Sep 2004 17:58:08 +0200 Date: Sat, 4 Sep 2004 17:58:08 +0200 From: Maik Holtkamp To: transcode-users@exit1.org Subject: Re: [transcode-users] Forced subtitles - selective rendering howto ? I did it on the German release of "Lord of the rings2". First you have to find out if the subs are really flagged or if a separate stream is used. In line with info from doom9 both is common. On my LOTR they were actually flagged. I used: tccat -t dvd -i /dev/dvd -P 1 > film.vob to get the whole titleset. ifo_dump /dev/dvd 1 | grep Color | sed 's/Color ..: 00//' > palette.txt to get the original color palette info. vobtosub -o -f -s -p palette.txt ../film.vob to get the pics out of the stream. spumux sub/$1.xml < film.mpg > film_sub.mpg to re-ender the subs back in the mplexed PS. I used the subs riping software found here www.xs4all.nl/~renjac/vobtosub-0.2.4.tar.gz but it is no more available :(. Please ask PM if you want it. However, if I followed the threads on dvdauthor-users correctly, spuumux should be able to do a corresponding job now. As the orginal DVD had a vob change (timecode reset) I used vi, xcalc, and mplayer (close look at the timestamps in the status line) to manual adjust the xml file before use with spumux (of course not very professional but met my needs). The time codes I get are the same as for lsdvd or other tools. When checking the time codes, for example chapter 5 starting at 03:25, with mplayer -ss 03:25 and comparing the start point with mplayer -chapter 5 they both differ. The only thing I could think of are the two angles of the DVD which may lead something to be calculated wrong. Until now, I only stumbled over people having the same problem. Maybe someone has a clue? jps _______________________________________________ transcode-users mailing list transcode-users@exit1.org http://lists.exit1.org/mailman/listinfo/transcode-users From transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Sun Sep 5 01:39:27 2004 Return-Path: X-Original-To: itdp@fh-biergarten.de Delivered-To: itdp@localhost Received: from fries.zyn.de (fries.zyn.de [213.239.201.88]) (using TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.kliche.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6F498126D91 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 01:39:27 +0200 (CEST) Received: from fries.zyn.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i84Nb8Si013383; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 01:37:08 +0200 Received: from mproxy.gmail.com (rproxy.gmail.com [64.233.170.199]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i84NWHSi013287 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 01:32:18 +0200 Received: by mproxy.gmail.com with SMTP id 75so86392rnl for ; Sat, 04 Sep 2004 16:32:16 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.38.86.78 with SMTP id j78mr700227rnb; Sat, 04 Sep 2004 16:32:16 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.38.59.53 with HTTP; Sat, 4 Sep 2004 16:32:16 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: Date: Sat, 4 Sep 2004 18:32:16 -0500 From: Jason Hecker To: transcode-users@exit1.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mail-Checks: sa wwmf block (fries) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on fries.zyn.de X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=no version=2.64 X-Spam-Level: X-WWMF-Status: 2.5.20040817.3!tsvurl@fries X-Mail-Blocker-Flag: YES X-List-Qualification: Member Subject: [transcode-users] Converting from PAL to NTSC Sender: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Errors-To: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org X-BeenThere: transcode-users@exit1.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.11 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: transcode-users@exit1.org X-Reply-To: Jason Hecker List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: transcode Users Mailing List List-Unsubscribe: , When I take a movie that is 25 FPS, and make it to an NTSC mpeg2 output, the video file itself seems to speed up, as it is just changing the framerate or something, and not stretching out frames to keep the a/v in synch. Yes, that certainly is a known problem of all extracting programs. Also there seems to be difference-in-opinion about how a ITU-M (erronously called NTSC by many people) frame rate on a DVD should be interpreted. One more reason why US citizens are screwed with their TV standards ;-) _______________________________________________ transcode-users mailing list transcode-users@exit1.org http://lists.exit1.org/mailman/listinfo/transcode-users From transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Sun Sep 5 12:04:07 2004 Return-Path: X-Original-To: itdp@fh-biergarten.de Delivered-To: itdp@localhost Received: from fries.zyn.de (fries.zyn.de [213.239.201.88]) (using TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.kliche.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A6558126D91 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 12:04:07 +0200 (CEST) Received: from fries.zyn.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i85A2gSi002506; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 12:02:42 +0200 Received: from a.mx.oldconomy.com (oldconomy.demon.nl [212.238.217.56]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i859n3Si001830 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 11:49:03 +0200 Received: from andromeda.oldconomy.com (andromeda.oldconomy.com [172.31.1.2]) by a.mx.oldconomy.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 31CF0CFBD5 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 11:49:03 +0200 (CEST) Received: by andromeda.oldconomy.com (Postfix, from userid 10) id F3E2252C042; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 11:49:02 +0200 (CEST) Received: by skylla.oldconomy.com (Postfix, from userid 100) id 0B583448; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 11:48:51 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: [transcode-users] Converting from PAL to NTSC From: Erik Slagter To: transcode-users@exit1.org In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <1094377730.5022.118.camel@localhost.localdomain> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.4.6 (1.4.6-2) Date: Sun, 05 Sep 2004 11:48:50 +0200 X-Mail-Checks: sa wwmf block (fries) X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on fries.zyn.de X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=no version=2.64 X-Spam-Level: X-WWMF-Status: 2.5.20040817.3!tsvurl@fries X-Mail-Blocker-Flag: YES X-List-Qualification: Member Sender: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Errors-To: transcode-users-admin@exit1.org X-BeenThere: transcode-users@exit1.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.11 Precedence: bulk Reply-To: transcode-users@exit1.org List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: , List-Id: transcode Users Mailing List List-Unsubscribe: , On Sun, 2004-09-05 at 01:32, Jason Hecker wrote: > When I take a movie that is 25 FPS, and make it to an NTSC mpeg2 > output, the video file itself seems to speed up, as it is just > changing the framerate or something, and not stretching out frames to > keep the a/v in synch. That's always difficult for encoders. I bet you actually you don't see pixels but macroblocks (16x16 pixels) instead. Encoders have difficulty to assign the "right" q, like how low the much quality can be set without you seeing it, for certain types of texture, a.o. sky and water. Also you may have rate control (too) tight so it doesn't have enough "bits left" for all that motion. Alternatively (though this is just a wild guess) you could be seeing the result of the use of 4:1:1 YUV colorspace--red and blue are each encoded separately with half the resolution of the luminance channel, so if you have a bunch of shades of red (like fire) or blue (like water) then you can end up with pixelated video. I noticed this myself the other day while encoding to MPEG2 (ffmpeg), and it was definitely 2x2 blocks, not 16x16. Then again, I could be wrong (: --Andrew Church achurch@achurch.org http://achurch.org/ _______________________________________________ transcode-users mailing list transcode-users@exit1.org http://lists.exit1.org/mailman/listinfo/transcode-users From transcode-users-admin@exit1.org Sun Sep 5 18:29:47 2004 Return-Path: X-Original-To: itdp@fh-biergarten.de Delivered-To: itdp@localhost Received: from fries.zyn.de (fries.zyn.de [213.239.201.88]) (using TLSv1 with cipher EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA (168/168 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.kliche.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6302A126D91 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 18:29:47 +0200 (CEST) Received: from fries.zyn.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i85GQFSi017956; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 18:26:15 +0200 Received: from postfix3-2.free.fr (postfix3-2.free.fr [213.228.0.169]) by fries.zyn.de (8.12.3/8.12.3/Debian-6.6) with ESMTP id i85GJ0Si017657 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 18:19:00 +0200 Received: from christian.marillat.net (unknown [82.225.139.42]) by postfix3-2.free.fr (Postfix) with ESMTP id BA6B7C4E7 for ; Sun, 5 Sep 2004 20:14:36 +0200 (CEST) Received: from marillat by christian.marillat.net with local (Exim 4.34) id 1C3zjH-0004nR-QX for transcode-users@exit1.org; Sun, 05 Sep 2004 18:18:59 +0200 To: transcode-users@exit1.org Subject: Re: [transcode-users] How to remove pixelization X-Face: %bb}rHtkhdXe[kOd{$b>~C#vXV/f-TGTU{[j(@aYvg~5i3E"O+!TdhB,l|fu!F"v%1 $d/]Xn;[HuD"PPm6!cVD$FO!7FGEk1:-2y!<'k8.yWu_aso"c!Rn<&*}MKyl>Ym#H-Hj.;'m3q |:`GheUw?{lt~;@j-a,x-r*A}5uJDxfW"/UgcSaB_Dwksz-MU3hLkF}%uwe._`u\Avd!
